A Parent's Dream

Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart. 52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. (Luke 2:51-51 NLT)

So many parents today just want their kids to grow up to be happy. Have we made a "god" out of happiness? I don't see that word in the description of Jesus' growing up years.

Jesus grew in wisdom. The Bible tells us that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." (Psalms & Proverbs). To "fear the Lord" is to respect and honor Him. Jesus grew closer to God His Father. He grew physically and loved both God the Father and other people, the two greatest commandments.

Ever since our first child was born, this has been my dream and my prayer for our three now adult children. I have prayed for years that God would help them make wise decisions and that they would know, love and trust the Lord. I've also hoped that they would use their time and resources to help other people. I would like to tell you that my adult children are perfect, but how can an imperfect dad expect that? I continue to pray that God would give them wisdom and they have faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

What is your dream for your children? It is never too late to pray that our children will follow the example of Jesus.

My name is Larry. Right now I am serving as the Intentional Interim or Transitional Pastor at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Richville, MI. This blog is part of my daily personal time reading the Bible and talking with God. It is more of my personal thoughts than a deep theological discussion. Thanks for taking the time to join me in reading and thinking about what God has to say to us today.
