Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher, and she was very old. Her husband died when they had been married only seven years. 37 Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer. 38 She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God. She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem. (Luke 2:36-38)
Anna was an amazing woman we know very little about. We do know that she was a widow who loved the Lord and showed it. Even though Anna spent most of her life as a widow because her husband died when she was young, Anna did not feel sorry for herself. After Anna met Jesus, she told everyone about Him.
Anna was like so many woman I have met in my ministry who have buried their husbands and continue to love and serve the Lord. These women bring special gifts and abilities to their church families. They introduce other people to Jesus and encourage their fellow Christians to give Praise to the Lord. Thank God for the "Annas" you know and have in your church.
