“Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!” (Luke 2:29-32 NLT)
Simeon got it. Promised by the Lord that he would see the Promised Savior (also called Messiah or Christ) before he died, Simeon recognized the baby Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promise. He also recognized that Jesus came as the Savior of all people. Jesus would make God known to the nations and bring them into God's eternal family. With that Good News, Simeon was ready to die in peace, the Peace that only God can give.
Do we get it? I think too many Christians are living in fear. We can be afraid of the Covid Virus and stop living. Precautions makes sense. But letting fear control our lives is something else. We know that when this life ends, we can "die in peace" because we have seen and received God's gift of salvation.
Do we get it? Do we keep Jesus to ourselves or do we introduce others to Him? Jesus did not tell us to hide out until His return. He tells us to "Go, make disciples." God's Word and Spirit bring people to faith in Jesus. But Jesus expects us to make the introductions.
Do we get it? Are we praising God and introducing people to Jesus? If not, why not?
