"Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived." (Luke 2:21 NLT)
God commanded the Israelites to circumcise baby boys on the eight day after their birth to be circumcised as a sign of the covenant between God and His people. Jesus did not need to be circumcised to enter into a covenant relationship with God because He is God. But Jesus was circumcised for us.
He was also given His name on the eight day. "Jesus" means Savior. Jesus came to save us from sin and death. He gives us forgiveness and life. Everything Jesus did, He did for us, for you and me and all people.
