When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” (Luke 2:15 NLT)
How many times do we make excuses, claim that we are too busy, say it is too late, or turn down an invitation because we already have something else planned? The Shepherds did not do that. They were busy watching over their sheep. It definitely was late. They had to get up early in the morning to take care of their sheep. But they ignore the invitation to go see Jesus. They heard the angels message and went to see the newborn Savior.
We can find all kinds of reasons why we don't make time to read and listen to God's Word. We can get so busy that we forget to talk with God or to make time for Him in our lives. We let other things keep us from worship services or Bible study.
We have heard the Good News that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into our world to rescue us from sin, guilt and death. This is the greatest news of all time. Like the Shepherds, we need to listen to the Good News, to go Jesus in His Word and with other Christians, and to see Him with the eyes of faith and believe the Good News is also for us.
