21 At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way. (Luke 10:21 NLT)
This prayer of Jesus may sound strange when we first look at it. But take a closer look. Jesus' ministry was open and public. Friends and enemies, the curious and the critical were in the crowds that heard Him and witnessed His miracles.
Jesus thanks the Father for the childlike faith of those who see and believe Him. A child like faith is a trusting faith. The truth was hidden from those who refused to believe, who thought they were wiser than anyone else, who relied on themselves instead of trusting God. These were the people who would turn against Jesus. They thought they were too good to believe or follow Jesus.
Faith means trusting and following Jesus, not trusting in ourselves and telling Jesus where we want to go.
