At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. 22 Then he told John’s disciples, “Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” 23 And he added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.” (Luke 7:21-23 NLT)
Jesus answered the question from John the Baptist's disciples by showing them. The prophet Isaiah gave this promise from God, "In that day the deaf will hear words read from a book, and the blind will see through the gloom and darkness. The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. The poor will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel." (Isaiah 29:18-19 NLT) Jesus fulfilled God's promise.
I don't know if John asked this question for himself or if he wanted his followers to see Jesus and believe. Both John and his disciples were reassured that Jesus is "The One."
We can read about what Jesus did during His time on earth. We can also look around and see how God in Christ answers prayers today. I got the news last night that my brother who had Covid and pneumonia came home from the hospital yesterday. The Lord still answers prayers. A special thanks to all who prayed for David. Be sure to thank God for answering our prayers.
