“So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.” (Luke 8:18 NLT)
Does you mind every drift off when you are listening to someone else? Listening but not paying attention? I know it happens to me. It may happen when you are trying to do something else while the other person is talking. Or it may be because you think you have heard this before or the other person just has not got your attention. You've probably checked out while listening to a pastor preach. I know I have.
Jesus tells us to pay attention when it comes to hearing His Words. We may not hear what He is saying to us at the time if our mind is somewhere else. That could be why we can read the same parts of the Bible over and over again and hear something different when we are actually paying attention.
Paying attention to other people is important. Paying attention to Jesus when we hear His Word is even more important.
