At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him 26 and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, 28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God. (Luke 2:25-28 NLT)
I can be impatient. I don't like waiting in long lines or being put on hold when I make a call. You may feel the same way too. We have been dealing with the Covid crisis for a year. It seems a lot longer than that. I can't wait to get rid of my face mask. I finally got the first of two shots of the Covid vaccination. I just want this whole Covid mess to go away, but I know it won't go away quickly.
We can learn some lessons from Simeon. Simeon either was a patient man or learned to be patient. We don't know which one. But we do know he had waited his whole life to see the Promised Savior. God promised Simeon he would see the Messiah. When he did, Simeon took the Christ child in his arms and praised the Lord.
Even though we cannot see Jesus with our eyes or even shake hands with Him, we know that He holds us in His arms and nothing can ever cut us off from God's love. Despite how long we may have to wait for the Lord to return or how difficult things may get, we can always join with Simeon in giving Praise to the Lord because His love never ends.
