Isaiah had spoken of John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him! The valleys will be filled, and the mountains and hills made level. The curves will be straightened, and the rough places made smooth. And then all people will see the salvation sent from God.’” (Luke 3:4-6)
People make predictions that don't come true. Just look at your NCAA basketball tournament bracket. Mine is totally busted. But God always keeps His promises. John the Baptist fulfilled God's promise to send a spokesperson to prepare the way for the Promised Savior. After 400 years without a prophet, the common people were ready to listen. John set the stage for Jesus to begin HIs public ministry.
Jesus told His Disciples they would receive the Holy Spirit so that they could be His witnesses, telling people about Him. We have the Holy Spirit. We are surrounded by people who do not know Jesus. This is our time to prepare people for the coming of the Lord.
