49 “But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they didn’t understand what he meant. (Luke 2:48-50 NLT)
I loved playing sports when I was growing up. One summer day I wanted to go to the park to play baseball with my friends. My parents were busy doing other things and didn't really pay attention when I asked each of them if I could go to the park. They didn't say no, so I took that as a yes and went to the park. Some time later my parents and older brothers went looking for me and found me in the park. Didn't they know that was where I would be?
Jesus stayed behind when Mary and Joseph left Jerusalem to return to Nazareth. So they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him. When they found Him, Mary said they had been searching for Jesus everywhere. Jesus answered, "Didn't you know that I must be in my Father's house?" Jesus wanted to be close to His Father.
Do we want to spend time in "The Father's House?" Do we deliberately spend time listening, learning, and growing closer to God our Father? If Jesus did, shouldn't we?
