Way to Grow

When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. 40 There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. (Luke 2:39-40 NLT)

Luke does not tell us about Mary and Joseph escaping with Jesus to Egypt. Why? We don't know. Matthew reports that in his Gospel. Luke does tells us a couple of important things.

First Mary and Joseph fulfilled the requirements of the ceremonial law of Israel for Jesus. Jesus came to keep God's Laws perfectly for us. He lived a perfect life. Mary and Joseph did everything required by the law after Jesus was born.

Luke also tells us that Jesus grew to be healthy and strong physically. He was filled with wisdom. So Jesus was emotionally sound and close to God the Father. (We will see that in the next reading in this chapter.) God's favor was on Jesus. God the Father was watching over Jesus, protecting and guiding Him.

We cannot live a perfect life, but we can learn God's commands and try to keep them with His help. We can seek Godly Wisdom and try to grow closer to Him everyday by reading the Bible, taking God's Word to heart, and talking with Him. We can trust God to see us through life because we know that nothing will every separate us from His love. God wants to help us grow closer to Him.

My name is Larry. Right now I am serving as the Intentional Interim or Transitional Pastor at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Richville, MI. This blog is part of my daily personal time reading the Bible and talking with God. It is more of my personal thoughts than a deep theological discussion. Thanks for taking the time to join me in reading and thinking about what God has to say to us today.
