What Should We Do?

The crowds asked, “What should we do?” 11 John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” 12 Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, “Teacher, what should we do?” 13 He replied, “Collect no more taxes than the government requires.” 14 “What should we do?” asked some soldiers. John replied, “Don’t extort money or make false accusations. And be content with your pay.” (Luke 3:10-14 NLT)

God's Word calls for a response. The call to repentance should lead to a new life. When people asked John what they should do, he told them to be generous, be honest and be content.

What difference does our faith in Jesus and response to God's Word make in our lives? If we are just like everyone else, something is wrong. Jesus tells us to love others because He loves us, forgive others as He forgives us, to serve others as He gave His life in service for us. John's instructions are be generous, honest and content. If we try to follow Jesus' example and try to do what John says with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will not be perfect. But we will be different because we follow Jesus.

My name is Larry. Right now I am serving as the Intentional Interim or Transitional Pastor at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Richville, MI. This blog is part of my daily personal time reading the Bible and talking with God. It is more of my personal thoughts than a deep theological discussion. Thanks for taking the time to join me in reading and thinking about what God has to say to us today.
